Milwaukee, WI - Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) members are starting their engines as they prepare for the thrills, chills, and great adventure of High Octane Tour, September 22-26, 2007, a “wheels on” education on the roots of American stock car racing as they roll through the hills of the southeast.
Leaving the starting line in Chattanooga, Tenn., riders will ride through the beautiful, winding, tree-lined roads of the Chattahoochee National Forest before a pit stop in Dawsonville, Ga., the birthplace of NASCAR (and infamous bootlegging hotspot). Participants should make sure to stop at Georgia Racing Hall of Fame/Thunder Road USA, a unique entertainment complex showcasing stock car racing’s earliest history. Visitors may even see several stock car racing legends reminiscing about the “good ol’ days.”
From Dawsonville the road heads south, leading participants to Buford Dam Road, a popular biker road that traces Lake Lanier before heading over the dam and into Buford, Ga., for a dealer party.
Lap two heads out of Buford on scenic US 29 before leading riders into the heart of the Chattahoochee National Forest. Brasstown Bald, the highest point in Georgia, recognizable by the tower on its peak, will be visible as the bikes race on to North Carolina. Riding into North Carolina, the road turns east towards Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, a stunning, 315-foot stone monolith standing sentry over the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The winding, wooded roads head through Mooresville, home to dozens of NASCAR teams including high-profile organizations such as Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Penske Racing. A stop in Mooresville is an opportunity riders will not want to miss.
The checkered flag drops in Concord, NC, with another dealer party.
A victory lap the next morning begins with a special breakfast at Lowes Motor Speedway, followed by a parade lap around this world-famous, 1.5-mile tri-oval. Following this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, participants will head to Roush-Fenway Racing garages for a special behind-the-scenes look at the headquarters of some of NASCAR’s most prestigious teams.
